This map is adapted from the Capital Regional District's (CRD) 2005 Dec 05 "Proposed Victoria, Salt Spring, Cowichan Trail Circuit".

The CRD initiated the vision of the larger circuit, as a result of its 2005 "TravelChoices:A Long-TermTransportation Strategy for the Capital Region". Specific mentions of the Lochside, Galloping Goose, Sooke Wilderness, Trans-Canada Trail, and Salt Spring legs were made in the 2005 May 16 "CRD Parks Master Plan Update …".

The smaller loop, using the Mill Bay to Duncan stretch over the Malahat, has been added, because bus #66 from Victoria to Duncan now offers cyclists this option to safely complete that section.
